Gourd Crop for 2002

 

The 2002 gourd crop was grown during 2001.  After our first killing frost (which is about mid-October), it normally takes the gourds about 3 to 6 months to dry, depending on the size.  However, about 90% were dry by December, 2001, as the result of early planting and a warmer than normal fall.  The overall quality seems to be very good, with thick shells, little insect damage, and more Chinese/Mexican Bottles and large Bushel/Basket gourds than we have ever had.
